Aer Lingus crew covered for May
by Bernard Harbor

Fórsa has got confirmation that Aer Lingus cabin crew and ground staff will be included in the Government’s wage subsidy scheme until the end of May. Agreement was reached in a conference call between the Aer Lingus group of unions and the airline’s management at the end of last week. Discussions with Aer Lingus will continue over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the union has won confirmation that full salaries will be paid in the Irish Aviation Authority during April and May, despite a 90%-plus collapse in the company’s business.

The situation will be reviewed before June and, while there will be no cost reduction measures during this period, staff are being required to use up their accrued leave before 1st June.

The airport authorities in Dublin and Shannon are also signed up to the wage subsidy scheme. The DAA is paying full salaries until 25th April, after which almost all staff will be put on a four-day week with 80% of normal salary until 20th June.

Staff in Shannon airport authority now have the option of remaining on payroll, despite earlier management attempts to lay them off. Fórsa resisted this because staff wanted to remain on payroll, and most now will.

The union is seeking the reinstatement of three members threatened with lay-off as they don’t qualify for the government scheme.
