Members working in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in local authorities have voted in favour of taking industrial action.
The ballot concluded on Friday 5th December, there was an 86% turnout, with 98.4% voting in favour.
Head of the local government and local services division Richy Carrothers said: “We are determined to secure fair recognition, improved career pathways, and a consistent national approach to out-of-hours work for ICT professionals in the local authority sector. Their work is vital to delivering quality public services and effective local government in this country.”
He continued: “We informed the employers and the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) of the result last week. They now have an opportunity to come back to the table for meaningful and solution-focused discussions to deliver tangible improvements for these key workers.”
Chair of the ICT committee Paul Barker said: “The ballot has given us a clear mandate from members. Our work underpins the delivery of public services by local authorities across the country. Industrial action could cause significant chaos and disruption to workers and the public. Our members are united and determined to achieve a positive outcome.”
The local government and local services divisional executive has now established a disputes committee to oversee the dispute and will determine the nature of industrial action, and a timeline.
