LDA survey results: staff want better terms and conditions
by Hannah Deasy

Last month Fórsa opened a survey for staff working in the Land Development Agency. This followed several months of engagement with the employer in an attempt to formally establish an agreement that would allow the union to represent members on collective matters.

To date, the union has been disappointed by the LDA’s hostile response, including its refusal to meet on-site or engage meaningfully with the process.

The initial survey results are now available. They show a clear pattern emerging across the key issues raised. Survey participants outlined that they want to see action on pay and career progression and expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency in recruitment, pay and promotions. They also expressed discontent with workplace culture, citing issues not being dealt with, and policies not upheld uniformly.

Fórsa official David Field said: “These issues can be resolved by you and your colleagues. By joining the union and coming together, you can negotiate on these issues and get the terms and conditions that workers in similar semi-state agencies benefit from.”

At last month’s service and enterprises divisional conference, a motion was passed expressing solidarity with workers in the LDA.

David continued: “You have the full support of the union in your fight to establish collective bargaining rights that will allow us to negotiate fairer terms and transparent conditions for you and your colleagues.”

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has invited Fórsa and the LDA to a conciliation conference later this month. In advance of the meeting, the survey will remain open to give as many people as possible an opportunity to contribute– this is your chance to be heard. The survey is here.
