Fórsa official Stella Griffin has been nominated to represent the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on the Further and Higher Education Covid-19 Steering Committee.

The Department of Further and Higher Education established a tertiary education Covid-19 steering committee a number of months ago, to ensure a coherent approach to the challenges presented for Ireland and for the sector by the Covid-19 pandemic. But trade unions were initially excluded from the group.

A number of sub-groups have also been established to focus on specific issues, and to manage and progress the work that is underway across the sector.

Stella will be joined by representatives of the Teachers Union of Ireland and Siptu. The union representatives will also act as a liaison with ICTU’s education sector group.

Stella has welcomed the inclusion of trade unions in the forum. “The group has been established for the last ten months and the inclusion of the trade unions is a positive step going forward so that members concerns can be addressed,” she said.
