Fórsa’s cabin crew branch has stepped up their ongoing campaign for restoration of credit value and an overhaul of the credit system for Aer Lingus cabin crew, despite the company’s recent announcements regarding restructuring.
Speaking on behalf of Aer Lingus cabin crew members, Ángel Garcia said: “We do not accept that redundancies are needed in a profitable company. Management have their agenda and we have ours, which is to protect jobs and enhance conditions of employment. We’ve been pushing for an overhaul of the credit system for a long time and we’re not going to stop now.”
At a meeting with the employer, cabin crew branch representatives put forward the key demands of the ‘Credit Where Credit is Due’ campaign. These include:
- Restored Valuation: Increase credit value to €7.69 (currently €5.83).
- Future Proofing: Link all future credit increases directly to basic pay increases.
- Sector Credits: Increase Sector Credits (TA) by 5.
- Delay Protection: Increase the delay credit model to 4 credits per hour (or part thereof).
- Agreement Alignment: Implement time of day and longstop away from base provisions in line with the black book agreement.
- Fair Calculations: Remove "report" and "release" when determining if a payment is due, ensuring time brackets entered are respected.
Fórsa assistant general secretary Nicola Coleman said: “These demands are fair. Restoring credits that were cut as “temporary” cost-saving measures in 2008 is long overdue.”
She continued: “Unsurprisingly, management attempted to dismiss our claims as ‘unrealistic and unreasonable,’ which we reject. A fair day's work deserves a fair day's pay.”
A written submission detailing the demands was submitted after the meeting.
Nicola went on to urge members to get involved in the campaign. Any member who is ready to assist with the campaign or wants to share ideas with the branch committee is invited to email the branch at cabincrewofficers@forsa-rep.ie with the subject line: "FIGHT FOR FAIR PAY".
