Delegates at Fórsa’s Services and Enterprises conference last week backed calls for a legal right for workers to be represented by a union of their choice, and for legislation to outlaw union-busting tactics employed by unscrupulous employers.

A motion from the division’s executive committee acknowledged the struggle that some Fórsa members have experienced when seeking union recognition. “The right to join a union and bargain collectively for fair pay and conditions of employment is critical to a fair workplace. It is the only way to ensure employees enjoy bargaining power on a par with the employer,” it said.

The union’s Communications Companies’ branch called for laws to guard against union-busting tactics. It also said “creeping Amazonification” of workplaces was leading to welfare for workers.

Meanwhile the Eir branch called for improvements to transfer of undertakings regulations, which protecting workers when the company they work for changes hands.

It’s never been more important – or easier – to get the protections and benefits of union membership. Join Fórsa HERE or contact us HERE.
