Fórsa has secured an agreement which will see a new departmental council structure introduced in the Legal Aid Board.

As part of the process to introduce the negotiating forum, Fórsa has established a national committee in the agency to raise issues from general service and paralegal staff. This committee will work with the Fórsa Legal Professional’s branch to move industrial relations issues through the new council.

Fórsa official Seán Carabini said the initial list of issues to be progressed arose from a workplace survey of general service and paralegal staff.

“A similar exercise will be conducted with legal professional members in the coming weeks,” he said.

Although there is still some work to do, Seán acknowledged the significant progress that has been made to date.

“We want to work with our members to construct a forum where issues can be raised and resolved. We still have to agree the rules of the forum, but we are well on the way to building something that I believe will serve our members’ interests well and that should stand the test of time,” he said.
