Aer Lingus cabin crew ballot on fresh proposals
by Niall Shanahan

Fórsa cabin crew members at Aer Lingus are currently taking part in a ballot on a proposed addendum to a December 2021 agreement, which, if approved, would see a partial reversal of a cut to commission, an earlier end to a pay freeze, and a once-off payment of €1,700 for those in employment with the airline pre- January 2022, with pro-rata payments for those employed after that date.

The addendum was negotiated by Fórsa following a speedier recovery of aviation traffic since the original agreement, designed to cut costs in response to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, was signed off last December.

Fórsa official Eugene Gargan explained: “It’s now been agreed that pay discussions will be brought forward to September 2022, with a view to concluding those negotiations by November, and with agreed terms to take effect next year.”

Eugene added that the addendum now increases the rate of commission for Dublin and Cork cabin crew to 10%, having previously been reduced from 12% to 7%. He said the once-off payent of €1,700 will be subject to Revenue guidelines, with payment to commence as early as next month.

The electronic ballot closes at 23:59hrs on Monday 19th September. Eugene said that more than half of those cabin crew members eligible to vote have already done so.
