Katie takes the reigns

Fórsa national secretary Katie Morgan has assumed her role as head of the union’s Services and Enterprises Division following her return from maternity leave last month. A former union official in Australia, Katie is bringing a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a trade union organiser, lead organiser and official since joining Fórsa in 2018.

Katie thanked the members, officers and staff for the warm welcome to the division, acknowledging the support provided to her in her new role. “In particular I would like to thank Ashley Connolly for her hard work and support over the last year, and throughout the handover process,” she said.

Ashley has moved on to another role at the same level.

Katie is currently meeting staff and divisional committee members, and endeavours to extend this invitation to all branches over the coming months.

“I intend to utilise this process as an opportunity to take stock of the division and assist the DEC with their ambitions to increase density and member engagement. Following the stocktake, we will assess the current structures, support and resources to confirm the necessary ones are in place to deliver our organising objectives and ensure we are member-centred,” she said.

Katie is a member of the ICTU general purposes committee, the ICTU executive and Kildare Trades Council. She is passionate about organising and empowering members to build strength and improve terms and conditions for workers.

“Over the coming months I will be working with the division to identify further opportunities for growth and member empowerment in order to increase density and ensure branches have the supports they need. I am very much looking forward to what is to come,” she said.
