Fórsa is pursuing a settlement to its claim for a Sunday premium allowance payment for members in the Border Management Unit (BMU) of Dublin Airport.
Forsa’s Head of Civil Service Derek Mullen explained: “Currently, members are in receipt of a 25% shift allowance which does not incorporate the Sunday premium, despite the fact it’s a legal right and exists in other parts of the civil service, including, civilian members in the Garda area and Revenue.
“We’re processing the claim through Departmental Council and we’re awaiting a possible adjudication* ,” he said.
Derek added that a recent settlement in the Workplace Relations Commission, in a related individual referral, has led the union to consider more serious action.
“This claim has been ongoing for two years now so we want to settle this matter for our members in the airport sooner rather than later. In recent weeks, we’ve advised management at the Department of Justice that we will consider all available options in order to further this claim,” he said.
