Fórsa’s school secretaries and caretakers will begin indefinite strike action on Thursday 28th August 2025, at the start of the new school term. Letters of notice have issued to affected school employers and school management bodies.
Members voted overwhelmingly in favour of indefinite strike action in their ongoing campaign for pension parity. The ballot saw 98% of voting members support the move, with a turnout of over 81%.
A rally will take in Dublin city centre, outside the Department of Public Expenditure, on Thursday 28th August, first day of industrial action for all participating members.
Explaining the choice of location Fórsa’s head of education Andy Pike said: “We’re going to make our voices heard loud and clear at the outset of this industrial action, right where the decisions about funding public service are made.”
Industrial officer Seamus Ryan said: “Members will be advised of further organisational details in the coming weeks. We’re producing materials for the strike which will be available across the country. Branch committee representatives are meeting to plan effective high visibility actions, and how to manage pickets. If members have any questions they should contact their branch representatives.”
Chairs of the school secretaries and school caretakers branched Luisa Carty and David Hearne said: “We are determined to show government we’re not backing down. Our work is vital part of the education system, and we want to make sure we have the same entitlements as everyone else who works in a school. Please make a plan now for your activity during the strike, and keep the branches informed so we can support you as best possible.”
