Head of Local Government and Local Services and Municipal Employees’ Divisions Richy Carrothers said that the launch will be “an exciting opportunity” to reinvigorate More Power to You in advance of the upcoming local elections in June, and asked members for their support.

“As we move closer to the local elections, there is a real opportunity to advocate for a changed and improved system of local government and local services. More Power to You is advocating for that change and we’re asking members to get behind this. We want to see decentralisation of decision-making, investment in locally-provided solutions to core issues like housing, the in-sourcing of waste services into local authorities, and a date set for a referendum to enshrine public ownership of water services in our Constitution,” he said.

Agenda items for the event include a presentation on the re-municipalisation toolkit produced by the European Public Service Union (EPSU) and Public Services International (PSI), a briefing on the campaign policy priorities, and a panel discussion with political representatives.

A full agenda with timings will be published in advance, and members can register for the launch HERE
