September may see a new intake of SNAs in schools around the country, in the event that there’s an increase in next year’s SNA allocations. It is important for any new SNA to note that there is a standard SNA contract of employment and that no alternative contract should be used.
 
There have been a number of cases in recent years of schools creating new contracts of employment for new entrants. However, given that the funding to pay for SNA wages comes directly from the Department of Education, it is vital that any new SNA signs the Department of Education-approved contract.
 
The contract has two variants – one for SNAs who work in primary schools (available here) and a second for those who work in post-primary (secondary) schools (available here).

The SNA plays an integral role in communities across the country. In many cases, existing SNAs may know a new SNA, or may know somebody applying for a job as an SNA.
