Two former nightwatchmen have won a landmark adjudication, forcing the State Examinations Commission (SEC) to backpay wages denied under a key union-negotiated agreement.
A recent win for Fórsa saw the civil service adjudicator find in favour of a pair of nightwatchmen members formerly employed by the State Examinations Commission (SEC).
The adjudicator found that the members had been underpaid by the SEC, who claimed the workers were not covered by a Labour Relations Commission (LRC) negotiated Interim Service Level Arrangement. As such, the members were awarded payment backdated to the introduction of the agreement.
Fórsa official, Paul Moyer said, “It’s right that the adjudicator found in favour of our members, but it is disappointing that it has taken so long to resolve this case and that it will take longer still to fully calculate what they are owed.”
Due to the nature of the underpayment, it will take time for the SEC to calculate the full settlement owed, with a final figure being expected in the coming weeks.
Paul said, “This case isn’t over until our members are paid. I will be working with the SEC to ensure this happens without further delay.”
