Fórsa’s local government and local services divisional executive committee (DEC) has expressed concern at council employers’ disappointing response to the union’s claim for revised promotion arrangements for senior executive officers.

The union is seeking similar fields of competition to those that exist in the civil service, education and health sectors.

The union recently met the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), which represents council employers, to discuss the union’s claim. But no progress was made.

Fórsa’s head of division, Peter Nolan, expressed frustration with the impasse. “It is galling to the extreme when employers won't publically commit to improving the situation when they privately acknowledge the problems with the existing arrangements," he said.

The DEC is to refer the claim to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) if progress is not made at the next employers’ group meeting.
