Fórsa has organised a series of member meetings to discuss the concerns of health and social care professional members with regard to Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT).

National secretary Linda Kelly said there has been steady contact from branch representatives and members working in the service to discuss the range of ongoing issues throughout the summer months.

The recent government instruction that health and social care supports are to be returned to special school settings is of particular concern to members, who have just received a union instruction to cease local engagement on the matter in advance of discussions between Fórsa and the HSE.

Linda said the issues arising in children’s disability services are varied, complex and long standing: “The union continues to focus on the issues in this area and there’s a renewed focus in the media and within the political sphere,” she said.

The member meetings aim to provide a focus on a joint union industrial relations (IR) forum, and to establish consultative groups with representatives from every grade, guided by Fórsa’s national team.

To date over 200 members have registered for the sessions that are taking place over the month of September. Linda said she is “blown away” by the engagement to date and looking forward to meeting with members to work on solutions.

The next member engagement meeting will take place next Monday (19th September). All meetings are held online via Zoom and members can register HERE

Linda said the union will be seeking nominees to a consultation group and following up on this in the coming weeks.
