The ‘My Open Library’ (MOL) service, which was recently introduced in Arklow, is working very well with the full cooperation of Fórsa members, according to union official Olajide Ogidan.

The service, which gives public access to libraries on a self-service basis from 8.00am to 10.00pm, 365 days a year, was introduced after extensive consultation with the union and its members, he said.

“This is a demonstration of our members embracing change. The key to the success of MOL is the proper consultation and engagement which took place with the union and the incredible efforts of our members in ensuring its smooth roll-out,” he said.

As a result of its success in Arklow, the service is now being rolled-out in Wicklow in November.

“We are proud of the commitment of our members and their contributions towards the successful rollout of the service. With a majority of people working remotely, the services and desks provided in the libraries provide an excellent alternative for people who may find it difficult to work from home or just need a change in their work environment,” said Olajide.

The latest easing of public health restrictions on 22nd October saw 28 libraries resume their My Open Library service. This allows members to access the library and a range of self-service facilities, including free use of wi-fi, printing and photocopying, study and reading spaces, and meeting facilities.
