Fórsa is inviting members to contribute to a review of the qualifications required for planning posts in local authorities.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recently established a working group to review the qualifications needed to work in planning in the local government sector. Qualifications includes both educational and experience requirements.
As part of that work, the group is now inviting submissions from key stakeholders and other interested parties, in relation to any aspect of the current qualifications required for planning posts in the sector.
The union will make a formal submission and comments from members will shape the content of that submission.
Head of division Richy Carrothers said: “The work undertaken by planners in local authorities is vital to the future development of our built landscape.”
“We know that workers understand best what their job involves, and that’s why they are well placed to advise on what qualifications are needed to do the work well. There are obvious concerns regarding professional standing, career progression and pay. To that end, it is essential members working in planning in local authorities engage with their union. Your feedback is critical and will form the basis of our submission.”
The deadline provided by management has been extended to Wednesday 25th March. For more details on the consultation, you can click here.
To have your say, email your comments to lghelp@forsa.ie by 5pm on Thursday 12th March.
