Physiotherapist members applying to the Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures Division received an early Christmas present on Thursday 4th December. Following a months-long non-compliance campaign, CORU dropped the €50 registration and renewal fee introduced this summer.
National secretary Linda Kelly congratulated members on their important win. She said: “This is a great outcome for physiotherapists and sends an important reminder that regulated HSCP professionals will not stand for the imposition of additional, unnecessary fees.”
“Collective action by Fórsa physiotherapist members made this happen. By refusing to register in protest at the fee imposed, they have secured a significant win.”
The introduction of the €50 registration and renewal fee met with immediate backlash when it was introduced during the summer. Fórsa issued guidance to members to not make payment of the fee and sought engagement with CORU over the fee’s introduction.
Linda said: “A unilateral increase in registration fees like this is not in line with the current Public Service Agreement. In the current agreement we obtained a reduction of the registration fee from €295 to €100. Introducing another fee is unacceptable and represents a backtracking on the agreed reduction.”
She continued: “Our members have shown that they are willing to stand together and take collective action. Now that CORU have confirmed have there will be no additional fee, members can register and this important professional development can progress.”
