Sadness at death of former Cathaoirleach

Members, staff and activists in Fórsa’s Local Government division were deeply saddened at the recent untimely passing of former divisional Cathaoirleach Michael McCabe. Michael had served as chair of the Louth branch and sat on the IMPACT central executive committee in his capacity of divisional Cathaoireach.

Fórsa national secretary Peter Nolan said Michael’s focus on ensuring proper pay and career development for local authority workers quickly expanded to encompass all aspects of trade unionism including solidarity and partnership.

He was amongst the first cohort of partnership officers employed by local authorities. In later years he was regularly to be seen as retired members’ events.

Michael was also active in outdoor pursuits including fishing and boating and was regularly to be found in Oriel Park supporting ‘De Town’. “He will be sadly missed by his family, and by work and trade union colleagues in Louth and throughout the country,” said Peter.
