Fórsa’s Galway Health and Local Government branch made a presentation last month to the very first recipient of their solidarity bursary.

The bursary, totaling €1500, was established three years ago with the assistance of One Galway to support persons living in Direct Provision access further education.

This year’s beneficiary is Xtremea Ewean, who has been navigating the Direct Provision system for the past six years and is studying computer electronics.

Branch chairperson Gordon Burke said it was “an honour and a delight” to make the presentation on behalf of the branch.

“Xtreamea is an exceptional young man, an asset to Ireland, and this bursary will go some way to help him continue his studies,” he said.

Gordon explained the importance of the programme, for Fórsa and the community.

“This is good for the branch and good for the community. Fórsa is not just about worker’s rights – we’re society based, built on volunteers, and it’s so important that we support and help those in our communities,” he said.

There’s never been a better time to join a union, and it’s never been easier. Join Fórsa today.
