Fórsa and Siptu have reached an interim agreement that will allow Dublin-based firefighters to remain in active service beyond age 55, subject to a medical examination.

The hard-fought arrangement, which was secured following lengthy negotiations with Dublin Fire Brigade, will see the retirement age increase from 55 to 60. Discussions were complex, as the change in retirement age required a change in legislation.

Fórsa official Dessie Robinson welcomed the development. “Discussions to increase the retirement age for firefighters have been intricate and lengthy, but this is a significant step in the right direction for our Dublin firefighters,” he said.

The interim agreement will remain in place until end of June 2021, when negotiations to secure the new arrangements are expected to conclude.
