Talks between unions and Aer Lingus continue this week as the company looks to cut costs in response to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.

Unions representing staff at the airline are trying to protect staff and maintain jobs and spending power at the airline, and across the sector, to the greatest extent possible.

At this stage nothing has yet been agreed, and unions have declined to make any further comment until we’ve reached an outcome. This is likely to happen in the next few days.

The talks continued this week as transport minister Shane Ross said his department had established an expert taskforce on recovery in the Irish aviation industry.

Fórsa has argued for State supports to the sector – including airports, airlines and related operations – since coronavirus-related health measures effectively shut down the industry in March.

The aviation task force has been asked to prepare an aviation recovery action plan, setting out recommendations for consideration by Government, by 10th July.
