RTÉ and the Irish Times were among the outlets that reported the Labour Court recommendation on Monday for a pension gratuity for school secretaries and caretakers.

In the same paper,Martin Wall reports that the scrapping of 'insourcing' by the HSE (where private companies are paid to use HSE staff and equipment after hours to hold special clinics to treat patients on waiting lists, "in an attempt to deliver more timely care"), could mean that up to 4,000 additional patients per month could be placed on a regional waiting list to see a consultant, according to an internal HSE report. 

Also in the Irish Times, John McManus queries IAG's plans for Aer Lingus. He debates the logic of shrinking the airline by 7% as the Dublin passenger cap is lifted: "IAG has either decided to take a step back by shrinking Aer Lingus in order to take two steps forward or has missed a trick because of its obsession with operating margins."

Elsewhere in this week's news, Erin Nugent, a project co-ordinator at HIV Ireland, is pursuing a complaint under the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 against her employer and is being represented in the WRC by Fórsa.

A reminder that a national hosepipe ban is to come into effect from Friday for the whole of the State.
