IALPA and Aer Lingus are back in the Labour Court this morning.

Emmet Malone reports in the Irish Times that Ictu says it's received assurances last week from the Taoiseach that a key EU directive on employment rights will be transposed into Irish law by the November 15th deadline. Malone's report says ICTU remains concerned about the "extent to which the measures involved are to be legislated for."

Staying with ICTU, along with the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), are calling on more employers across all sectors to appoint safety representatives within their workplaces ahead of an event in Dublin today to mark Workers' Memorial Day,  dedicated to remembering workers who have lost their lives, been injured or contracted illnesses at or because of work. The national commemorative ceremony will be held at the Garden of Remembrance this morning.

In the Irish Excaminer, Ibec's Gerard Brady says the Government must manage budget expectations with less cash.

Zen

I only discovered last week that, around the time I first moved into Inchicore, the local football ground was hosting a music festival featuring Thin Lizzy on a support bill with Mungo Jerry.

I was too young to attend, but it's possible that the reason I hadn't heard about it is that the whole project came off as a bit of a disaster, and I think it's safe to say Richmond Park hasn't hosted anything like that since. Who better to tell the tale, however, than the wonderful Donal Fallon, as the latest episode of Three Castles Burning reflects on The Isle of Wight on Emmet Road

Have a great Union Week.

Niall
