The Irish Times piece yesterday, on the national pay talks, is also available <a style="color: #000000;" href="https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/1mlrewmmf5/mv50qq4wdaj?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>, as that item was paywalled.   In related news, Dr Alan Eustace, assistant professor at the Trinity College School of Law, writes to the Irish Times responding to Jack Chamber's oped in yesterday's edition, criticising the <a style="color: #000000;" href="https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/1mlrewmmf5/5tfzupf99kq/external?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Government's inaction on provisions for collective bargaining</a>: "[Government has] refused to legislate in accordance with the recommendations of the Labour-Employer Economic Forum. Specifically, to place a legal obligation on private-sector employers to engage in good faith with a trade union authorised by a substantial number of their employees.    "I agree with the Minister that collective bargaining has been good for both public-sector workers and economic stability. It is time to recognise the same benefits in the private sector," he writes.   Chambers is also quoted yesterday as saying a return to old-style social partnership is not on the cards, while reiterating his appeal for public sector unions to join talks on a new pay agreement. Putting his deep knowledge of the history of Irish industrial relations on display, the minister described social partnership as something "<a style="color: #000000;" href="https://forsatradeunion.newsweaver.com/1mlrewmmf5/1bisr65jcdv/external?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">we had in the noughties</a>," which will come as news to 1987.
