CSO pay figures

Elsewhere, new figures from the CSO show that the public-private pay differential on average "ranged from 0.9% to a decrease of 6.6% in 2022." RTÉ reports that the CSO said "trends in the public-private pay differential show that public sector employees on higher incomes are worse off in terms of gross pay in comparison with private sector employees - this is known as the public sector discount."

On the same story the Irish Examiner reports "the CSO noted that the trend reversed for public sector workers on lower incomes who were better off in terms of gross pay compared to private sector employees, which is referred to as the public-sector premium."

Meanwhile, BreakingNews leads with "New data shows that there appears to be a levelling off in the public-private sector pay differential. Data published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows that between 2019-2022 there was no clear trend to the public-private pay differential."
