In the same article, Fórsa general secretary Kevin Callinan said people who pay taxes “want to feel like they’re having some kind of input in trying to improve services,” but that’s not always the case despite there being more money in the state coffers.

In the same paper, Matt Cooper dispenses advice on a series of action points for the Government, including the reinstatement of social partnership ("If the centre is to hold, then the government needs to build a wider coalition with unions, employers and other legitimate representative interests. That would give it more strength to face down any future mobs. The opposition would also find it difficult to deny its merits") and he also makes the case for a better pay deal for public servants, albeit with "strict conditions about AI and work practices."

ICTU general secretary Owen Reidy is quoted elsewhere in the context of the LEEF meeting last Friday: "If Government don’t listen at this time… strike action is probably inevitable," while the Irish Examiner wonders if the fuel blockades will usher in a new kind of protest.

Elsewhere, the Indo's Anne-Marie Walsh reports on Fórsa's efforts to implement “urgent remedial action” regarding attendance at work during the continuing fuel crisis.

Meanwhile, as speculation mounts over the effect of Trump's war on jet fuel and holiday plans - and with Ireland is set to ask the European Commission to drop a tariff on aviation fuel to lower fuel costs for airlines - a number of Aer Lingus flights have been cancelled from its summer schedule due to "mandatory maintenance on aircraft", the airline has said, adding that the "vast majority of customers" are being accommodated on same-day services.
