The Birdman
by Niall Shanahan

Following on from yesterday's piece on the Central Bank's predictions for wage growth this year, Eoin Burke-Kennedy has this explainer in the Irish Times, including the effect on wage growth of the new public service pay deal. The Mirror reports the same story under the headline "Irish workers set for their biggest pay hike in a decade."

Emmet Malone has this piece from earlier in the week, about the potential for "vibrant" trade unions in the North after the recent shift in the political status quo, and a boost in union membership.

A number of news utlets report that a former colleague of murdered office cleaner Urantsetseg Tserendorj has won a €20,000 claim for statutory redundancy after her bosses dismissed her concerns about being out on the streets of the Dublin Docklands late at night after finishing work.

Elsewhere, Portuguese political parties are struggling to form a government following the recent general election, while the Irish Examiner reports that the Department of Finance tried to downplay comments made by one of its senior officials about how ineffective sanctions had been in stopping the flow of Russian money through Ireland.
