Harris Leads

The Indo's coverage of the fresh polling says the Taoiseach's approval has surged by 17% and he's jumped ahead of Tánaiste Micheál Martin to become the country’s most popular party leader: "The Fine Gael leader now has an approval rating of 55pc, followed by Mr Martin (47pc). Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald (30pc) has seen her approval drop by 6pc. This is Ms McDonald’s lowest rating since The Irish Times poll began tracking approval ratings in 2019 before the last general election."

The case of Ger Malone, former chair of Siptu’s internal staff representative council, opened before the WRC yesterday at Waterford Courthouse. Ms Malone told the WRC tribunal that she was “looking down the barrel of a gun” after she made a series of complaints about alleged wrongdoing to senior management in the organisation. That story also appears in the Irish Times and the Examiner.

Elsewhere, the Indo reports that working asylum-seekers could be asked to make contributions of up to €238 a week to pay for state accommodation and services under measures being considered by the Government, while DCU Climate Change policy MSc graduate Helen Shaw writes about her research that shows "policy silos, disjointed decision-making and lack of regional governance holds Dublin back from integrating housing and climate planning."

The weather looks good for a lunchtime stroll.

Zen

Depending on how you feel about Glasgow pop/rock legends Simple Minds (or Sample Manes as my school pal Fearghal used to call them) there's much to enjoy in this rags-to-riches-to-playing-much-smaller-venues-to-playing-slightly-bigger-venues-again tale documenting the origins and career of a band I only saw once live (Croke Park '86). The two albums that still work for me are New Gold Dream and Sons and Fascination. Timeless art rock beauties with more than a hint of Krautrock in the mix. I love it.

Have a great day.

Niall
