Build Longer Tables

In the Irish Times this morning Emmet Malone writes that "Unions believe they are having moment in North but say funding is key to stable future" and reports separately that "Northern Ireland’s trades’ unions are to demand places on all significant Stormont-backed boards, following the loss of 80 per cent of the representation they had on such bodies 30 years ago."

I neglected to include details of the Le Chéile demo in Dublin last Saturday in yesterday's briefing. Thousands marched from Parnell Square through the city centre to Merrion Square Park in support of migrants, people of colour, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, Travellers and Palestinians. The Irish Times coverage includes video from the demonstration, as more than 130 national and local community groups, civil society and non-governmental organisations, trade unions (including Fórsa) and political parties took part.

Bobby McDonagh, writing in the Irish Times, says "the presence of Irish flags at some anti-immigrant protests has precisely nothing to do with love of Ireland, knowledge of our history or appreciation of our values."

The Indo reports from the WRC that a civilian analyst who exposed errors in garda homicide data has said that she was put under "terrible pressure and harassment" to sign off on a "one-sided" report by a review group, which she said was a “flagrant attempt” to undermine the methodology that had identified the issue in the first place.

You'll have heard of the glass ceiling in corporate life, but what about the glass cliff? Another great piece of workplace observation from Pilita Clark as International Women's Day approaches. Also, Cathy Sweeney writes about "femvertising" (advertising designed to empower women) as she observes, in this piece about consumerism, that "most women don't earn enough to achieve all the “choices” they are encouraged to make."

The EU has slapped Apple with a massive fine for stifling competition from rival music streaming services, the first time the tech behemoth has been punished for breaching EU law, while Sadhbh O'Neill argues for the 'greening' of pensions

It's big, it's noisy, it's brilliant and it's cast are, to a man and woman, almost impossibly charismatic. Dune 2 is in cinemas and well worth a trip to your local picture house.

Have a great day.
