Cliff Taylor writes in today's Irish Times that many have been too quick to call the demise of remote and blended work, and takes a look at the realities. The paper continues its strong focus on remote work, as does today's members bulletins. I'd draw your attention, in particular, to my colleague Brendan Kinsella's article on member feedback about their own experiences. The bulletins publish just after 9am this morning.
The latest edition of IRN picked up the news from the state of Utah that it has this week banned collective bargaining for teachers, police officers, firefighters and other public employees. Unions staged two weeks of protests at the Utah state capitol, and have vowed to continue the fight.
You may remember (in 2011) the governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker signed a similar order. While that piece of legislation (finally overturned only a couple of months ago so the reversal remains fragile) ended most collective bargaining rights for public employee labour unions, Walker had exempted police, fire fighters, and sheriffs deputies. Utah has gone much further on its collapse of workers' rights so, in the current circumstances, it may well set a template for other states to follow.
