ELsewhere, the Department of Equality has said work is continuing on the legislation required to fully transpose the EU’s Pay Transparency Directive but acknowledged the required measures will not be completed by the June 7th deadline and so implementation will happen on “a phased basis”. Ibec has sought a delay to the implementation of the legislation, while ICTU has said the Government needs to complete the process as quickly as possible. 

 

Trump's quixotic Iranian war, which is just beginning...but is also just about to end, means the Irish economy is "facing an energy affordability crisis as households and businesses face soaring fuel bills as the war in Iran drags on." Finally, all those back-to-the-office mandates have pushed Ireland’s commercial property market back into "a period of modest recovery with rents and capital values expected to rise in 2026", according to the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), who also warn of "the possible inflationary effects of ongoing violence in the Middle East, which has already triggered a spike in energy prices."

The story of Ümit, a playful and eccentric 65 year old Cypriot Cockney projectionist who, for 40 years, has kept his love of cinema alive by running the last cine film shop in the UK: "As gentrification and the cost of living crisis push the shop towards closure, his close filmmaker friend Liam begins making a film in the hope of saving it."
