Springsteen's latest (featured yesterday) put me in mind of Steve Earle's Christmas in Washington. The latter tune (from the brilliant El Corazon album) is more melancholy than defiant, and was written in response to Clinton's re-election in 1996. Here he explains as he performs to an audience in the wake of the election of George W Bush in 2002, while the chorus calls upon the spirit of Woody Guthrie to return.
