Veteran US senator Bernie Sanders is in town this weekend, and he tells Emmet Malone in the Irish Times that he's proud of the political opposition he has taken on Israel’s attacks on Gaza and “has no apologies to make” about his position on the conflict. Bernie will deliver the keynote address at the Robert Tressell festival at Liberty Hall tomorrow. 

Elsewhere, A Mayo County Council housing official has apologised for “any concern or distress” caused by his proposal to boycott holiday homeowners. 

Also in the news today, sea temperatures off the western and southern coasts of Ireland are above normal and constitute a marine heatwave, climatologists have said, as Met Éireann advises the nice weather is about to leave us.
