Cyndi's Song
by Niall Shanahan

On the day we learned of the passing both of GAA broadcasting legend Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh and journalist Tommie Gorman, there was also news of a newly appointed Minister for Finance.

The recently appointed 33-year old deputy leader of Fianna Fáil Jack Chambers has taken up the heavyweight government role, and he's the youngest finance minister since Michael Collins.

Elsewhere, outsourcing is on the agenda as RTÉ announces a series of restructuring plans that would see flagship shows like the Late Late and Fair City outsourced to other production companies and off the Montrose campus.

Meanwhile, the PNA has served notice of industrial action on the HSE in a dispute over staff shortages across the country’s mental health services and hospitals.

Zen

Your Zen moment this morning is about a bona fide pop legend. Defying the odds, creating a feminist anthem and enduring despite a mysogynist industry, Cyndi Lauper is 71 years old and her life and work is celebrated on a new documentaryLet the Canary Sing. It looks like a winner.

Have a lovely day.

Niall
