Meanwhile, MEPs have voted  in favour of asking the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) to determine whether the Mercusor deal is compatible with the bloc's policies. The European Union's new free trade agreement, with South America, was signed on Saturday but still requires approval before it can take effect. RTE reports that the move "could delay the deal by ⁠two years and potentially derail ⁠it."

 

The Irish Times reports on a case of a salesman accused of using a company credit card to buy cigarettes and lotto tickets, and his work email to register with dating websites, has had an €18,000 award for unfair dismissal halved at the Labour Cour, while the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard the case of a man who stole more than €90,000 from a primary school, while he was chairperson of the board of management, has been given a suspended sentence.
