Also in the news this morning is new figures from AIB suggesting Irish economic growth is slowing, as it emerges that Irish manufacturing activity increased at its slowest pace in 10 months in October, as output and new orders lost momentum. 

 

Lorna Siggins reports in the Sunday Independent about safety concerns at the Irish Coastguard Search and Rescue service as it emerges that the Irish Aviation Authority "is accused of failing in its oversight duty to support crew safety by allowing a 24-hour roster system to be logged as a total of 16.5 hours."

 

Elsewhere,the Irish Times reports that the taxpayer "has been left to foot the bill for more than €15 million worth of incorrect welfare payments over the past two years."

 

The Journal reports that the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has claimed more than 30 UK staff of Rockstar Games – the developers of Grand Theft Auto – have been sacked in a “union-busting” move by the company

 

Meanwhile, the PTSB Group of Unions including Unite, Mandate and Financial Services Union (FSU) say they have sought commitments on job security, to the bank's branch network, and "the introduction of a comprehensive and equal profit share scheme for all employees irrespective of their position in the Bank," RTÉ reports. The unions were briefed on Friday on the decision to put the bank on the market, and the implications it will have for staff. 

 

Brian O'Donovan reports that the INMO has said that planned work-to-rule action, by nurses in the Emergency Department of Mayo University Hospital, has been stood down. The action, over safe staffing levels, was due to begin today. 

 

Finally, broadcasts of future Dáil sessions could be in doubt as no firms have stepped in to bid to continue the service next year.
