Cobbler Wisdom

Leading the top Irish news stories today is a report that Sinn Féin is trying to shore up the loss of its voter base to the far-right by announcing a new policy on immigration.

Elsewhere, US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured enough support to be the Democrats nominee in the presidential election in November, as attention now turns to who will be her running mate.

Meanwhile, recent tests on waste water confirm that we are experiencing a significant spike in Covid, as high as during the 2021 winter surge.

I took two trips out to Dun Laoghaire last week. The first was to see Mikel Murfi's extraordinary performance of the play I Hear You and Rejoice, in which Murfi plays a fully realised ensemble of recognisable characters in a rural community, united by their love and admiration for one woman.

The second trip was to see Mikel Murfi's extraordinary performance of the play (and the first in a trilogyThe Man in the Woman's Shoes, in which Murfi introduces us to gentle Pat Farnon, and also plays a fully realised ensemble of recognisable characters in a rural community.

Murfi remains one of the most intriguing and talented performers in the country. If he brings his show to a venue near you at any time, my best and only advice is to buy a ticket and go.

Have a lovely day.
