The news that pilots at Emerald Airlines have served notice of 24-hour work stoppage to take place ahead of the August bank holiday weekend features heavily this morning. Check out coverage on that here, here, and here.

 

A “proper information campaign” in advance of as many as three referendums on gender equality will take up to 16 weeks, according to the chief executive of the Electoral Commission, Art O’Leary, adding to doubts over the Government’s intended November date for the people to vote on the issues of gender equality, the definition of “family” and the “place of women in the home”.

 

Speaking at the Mother Jones Festival in Cork, RMT leader Mick Lynch has said that trade unions cannot just focus on pay and conditions, and must also fight for social advance and political change.

 

The Government is making €10 million available for a policing surge in Dublin for the remainder of a year, in a bid to increase high visibility Garda patrols and shore up public perceptions of safety in the city.

 

Firefighters who are on strike have had their social welfare payments halted by the Department of Social Protection. Read more on that here.

 

New figures obtained by Social Democrats TD Róisín Shortall show that the number of children on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) waiting lists has increased by 12% in the six months from November to May of this year and by 20% in the Cork/Kerry region.

 

And finally, average weekly rents in private accommodation have increased by 37pc to €273 since 2016, the Central Statistics Office said in its latest census release on “Housing in Ireland”.
