The cost of Ireland providing humanitarian support for refugees from the Ukraine war is expected to reach €2.8 billion next year, according to internal Government figures. Meanwhile, a cross-party group of politicians will travel to visit refugees on the Ukrainian border next week as part of a fact-finding mission, according to The Examiner.

Figherfighters in Cork are set for industrial action, following a ballot over an ongoing industrial relations dispute between SIPTU and Cork City Council over staffing levels since the city boundary extension in 2019.

 

A fresh High Court challenge has been brought against a Sectoral Employment Order for electrical workers. The action has been brought by the National Electrical Contractors of Ireland which wants a SEO, which came into effect at the start of last February, quashed.

 

The HSE has rolled back on plans to offer frontline health workers a minimum Covid ­recognition bonus of €200. It is understood that the lowest payment would now be €600 and the full €1,000 bonus would be paid to most workers under revised draft plans following talks last Friday.

 

Elsewhere, the HSE's Emergency Department Taskforce is asking that the imposition of public health measures be considered by the Government, following a surge in Covid infections putting strain on hospitals.

 

And finally, the Consumer Association has called on the Transport Minister to step in as a matter of urgency and help resolve security queues which are causing people to miss flights at Dublin Airport.

Sad news broke over the weekend, of the passing of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins. I saw them live in the RDS in 2019 and was a moment of magic, he was exceptional. Here's my favourite.
