Cork's Pride and Trans rally will begin at the Central Library which has been described as a 'defiant choice of venue' by a Cork TD. Fórsa have been quoted in the article from Echo Live on threats of industrial action against Cork City Council for the council’s failure to protect library staff against “harassment and intimidation”. 

 

There is “no rationale” for tax cuts in the forthcoming budget, the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) has warned the Government. The comments come as the ESRI slashed its growth forecast for the economy   

 

The RTE controvery continues today as  members and exectives are due back in the Oireachtas at 1.30pm today for another committee meeting, this time PAC (Public Accounts Committee). Yesterday a four hour meeting of the arts commiteee heard RTÉ chairwoman Siún Ní Raghallaigh acknowledge “shocking” governance failings in the national broadcaster as it faces into a deepening conflict with star presenter Ryan Tubridy over hidden payments in a deal with Renault. 

 

Patrick Kielty has expressed his wishes to make his fee for presenting The Late Late Show public once it goes through the appropriate processes, including the remuneration committee of the broadcaster.

 

Police in France said 150 people have been arrested during a second night of unrest triggered by the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy by a police officer. The boy, named as Nahel M, was shot in the chest at point-blank range on Tuesday morning in an incident that has reignited debate in France about police tactics long criticised by rights groups over the treatment of people in low-income suburbs, particularly ethnic minorities.

 

Oscar-nominated Irish actors Paul Mescal and Kerry Condon and An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) director Colm Bairéad are among hundreds of new people invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose role includes voting in the Oscars.
