THE HOUSING CRISIS IS AN ISSUE FOR EVERYONE

Raise the Roof Rally for Housing - 3rd October

Most workers now struggle to buy a home of their own as house prices have spiraled beyond the reach of those on low and average incomes.

Soaring rents have put huge financial strain on workers, students and their families, often paying for poor quality accommodation with little or no security of tenure.

The ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign brings together a wide range of key civil society bodies to demand radical new action on the housing crisis.

The campaign is calling for supporters to attend a rally at Leinster House at 12.30pm on Wednesday 3rd October.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has called on unions to attend the rally, which coincides with a cross party motion tabled by the political parties in the National Homeless and Housing Coalition.

The motion, which has the support of Sinn Féin, People Before Profit, the Labour Party, Solidarity, the Social Democrats and the Green Party, calls on the Government to enact legislation that would make it illegal to evict tenants in the private sector into homelessness.

The motion also calls for a doubling of capital expenditure for the construction of quality, affordable public housing in the upcoming budget, and to insert a right to housing into the Irish Constitution.

This is a unique opportunity to raise your voice in support of measures to address Ireland's deepening housing crisis.

Fórsa is encouraging all members who can attend to do so.
