Most of the papers this morning cover the acceptance of Labour Court proposals by the INMO aimed at resolving the dispute over pay and staff shortages. Three in five nurses voted to accept the deal. This piece by The Times examines the destabilising effect the settlement has had on the overall public service agreement and the Government’s public service pay policy in general.

Meanwhile, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has given a “stark warning” to Cabinet colleagues about the need to control spending. He is to hold special bilateral meetings with Ministers running big spending departments in an attempt to rein in expenditure and hold them to their budgets.

RTE reports that Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan has said he is concerned by the contents of a report into alleged unauthorised surveillance in the prison service. The report, which was carried out by the Inspector of Prisons, is being examined by the Attorney General.

The Times reports that Bombardier, the global aerospace group is to sell off its entire operations in Northern Ireland at a potential cost of 4,000 jobs. This will be seen by unions and political leaders in the North as a massive blow for the economy.

The Abbey Theater has committed to reviewing pay rates for workers following a review, prompted by complaints from artists. The national theatre has also promised to cut the number of plays it creates “in association” with private theatre companies, which has been blamed for pushing down pay, but said that it would keep hosting productions by international companies.

ONE Galway is encouraging trade union members to take part  in the Pieta House event, Darkness into Light, on May 11th. The event aims to raise awareness about and fight suicide and self-harm. For more information click here.
