The Leinster Leader reports that the social protection minister's invitation to talks tomorrow (Thursday) with unions representing CE supervisors, may avert the five-day strike action planned to commence on 13th May. However, while the opportunity to talk is welcome, neither union is expecting the discussion tomorrow to produce any definitive solutions. The ICTU conference on a Just Transition took place yesterday. Labour leader Brendan Howlin TD addressed the conference and called for the role of Minister for Public Expenditure to be held by someone different than the Minister for Finance, and to add climate action to the role’s portfolio to implement all-of-government carbon budgeting.
