Just a reminder that the More Power To You campaign rocks up to Sligo tomorrow evening and moves on to Kilkenny next Tuesday (7th May) on the eve of our Civil Service and Local Government conferences in the city next week.

The Leinster Leader reports that the social protection minister's invitation to talks tomorrow (Thursday) with unions representing CE supervisors, may avert the five-day strike action planned to commence on 13th May. However, while the opportunity to talk is welcome, neither union is expecting the discussion tomorrow to produce any definitive solutions. We'll bring you more on that in the Services and Enterprises news bulletin later today.

The ICTU conference on a Just Transition took place yesterday. Labour leader Brendan Howlin TD addressed the conference and called for the role of Minister for Public Expenditure to be held by someone different than the Minister for Finance, and to add climate action to the role’s portfolio to implement all-of-government carbon budgeting.

Elsewhere, the head of advocacy at Focus Ireland, Mike Allen, is calling on the Minister for Housing to look at the right to a home provision in the Constitution. The call comes as the Government's latest figures reveal that there are now over 3,800 homeless children across the State.
