Too early?
by Bernard Harbor

The union's statement about the many pressures on our national archives, released last Sunday, has turned out to be bit of a slow-burner. This Shawshank Redemption of Fórsa news releases limped in at page 15 of Monday's Indo, before getting a good airing in Tuesday's Examiner. It's since been picked up by today's Irish Times, while RTÉ Radio One's This Week is lining up a piece with our Seán Carabini for broadcast at 1pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, records lost during the 1922 Four Courts fire are to be recreated courtesy of virtual reality.

According to unions there, 1.5 million people took to French streets yesterday to protest against planned pension changes amid a national public service strike. RTÉ's Juliette Gash has this short explainer.

Closer to home, health strikes in the north look set to continue as an "improved" pay offer fell short, while farmers in the Republic are planning more protests.

We published 2019’s penultimate set of members’ ebulletins yesterday - thanks to everyone who put us on to stories, which you can read here: Civil service, education, health & welfare, local authorities and services & enterprises.

In other news, the Indo reports that a third of TDs have a second job, the Times unpicks the figures behind Dublin City Council's €33 million worth of rent arrears, and De Paper reports on staff turnover and stress leave at CervicalCheck.

Finally, The Guardian ranked the 50 best Christmas songs yesterday. Though a little premature for my tastes, it's included here to get you in the mood for tonight's staff party (note: late night seasonal services on trains and DARTs start tonight too).

There are a few surprises in there, like this old favourite of mine from William Bell. But this zennish gem was excluded, perhaps for the same reason I include it here; it's arguably not a Christmas song at all.

Go get your dancing shoes.

Bernard
