Concerns have been raised in about staffing levels and workload at the Garda nerve centre, following news that members of the public have had to wait more than five minutes for their 999 calls to be answered.  

 

The parent company of Tara Mines in Co Meath has announced that production and exploration is to cease temporarily at the facility, resulting in the temporary laying off of 650 workers. Read more on that here.

Extending the National Childcare Scheme to childminders working in their own homes would save thousands of families almost €100 a month, afford parents more choice and provide other benefits, but would cost up to €121 million a year, according to a new study by the ESRI.

 

And finally, the State should subsidise travel for disability workers returning to Ireland to fill positions to help tackle a staffing crisis in autism services, according to a landmark Oireachtas report.
