Gurning Ham

As we entered the weekend, the other big Fórsa story was that pilots at Emerald Airlines (Aer Lingus regional) had backed the new IR agreement with the airline. That story was picked up by RTE, the Irish Times, Indo, Business Post and Highland Radio. Six months ago the company wouldn't talk to the union, so it's a significant development, and stellar work by IALPA reps and Fórsa officials. Bualadh bos colleagues.

The political parties are having their think-ins this week ahead of the new Dáil term, as the Irish Times reports that Ministers McGrath and Donohoe are "set to resist demands from colleagues for spending increases and one-off Budget 2024 giveaways matching last year’s levels, as budget negotiations within Government move up a gear."

Elsewhere, the Irish Times leads with news that the Central Bank is facing pushback from lawyers and company directors against sweeping powers to impose new sanctions against individuals for misconduct in the financial sector.

Finally, the award for slowest person to read the room goes to Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales, who has finally resigned.

Zen

For your Zen this morning I quite enjoyed Emer McLysaght's reflections on her career as a seasoned music festivalist. It reminded me of how, on a miserable Saturday night watching Orbital under freezing torrential rain at Forbidden Fruit in 2017, I realised it was the end of my interest in outdoor gigs, never mind festivals. Give me an intimate indoor venue with good acoustics and ready access to the bar any day of the week. Comfy chairs optional.

Have a great week.
