The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) will begin balloting for strike action today in the ongoing dispute over pay. The ballot will run until December 13th and if passed could see nurses engage in a number of 24-hour stoppages. A separate ballot of members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) for strike action over pay will get under way on Wednesday.

 

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) is set to vote on who will be its new general secretary, with a result set to be announced on December 18.

 

Chartered Accountants Ireland have warned a Revenue Commissioners review of employees’ entitlement to claim flat-rate expenses could effectively cancel out the benefit of Budget 2019 for thousands of workers. Trade union Mandate is also critical, noting the potential impact on lower paid workers and committing to continue lobbying for the retention of the allowance beyond 2018.

 

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) says many landlords are 'deliberately breaching the law' and attempting to increase rent by more than 4% a year, in areas designated as rent pressure zones.
