RTE covers the auto-enrolment pension scheme, the details of which were published yesterday by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Under the system, a worker will be automatically enrolled in a pension scheme when they start a job. 

 

Members of the Defence Forces have voted to accept a €10m package of pay and allowance increases aimed at addressing staff shortages. The decision by members of Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association (PDFORA) marks a major breakthrough in a long running dispute over pay and conditions for soliders.

Meanwhile, the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), alongside trade union SIPTU, are calling on third-level institutes to agree to protect the rights of postgraduate students as workers. The two bodies have launched a joint lobby document in order to push colleges and universities to ensure postgraduates are paid for their work.
